I’m in Deirmimas, my beloved village, my beloved house. I have missed it and I will always do. Relaxing on the porch, on the couch, a book on my lap, the wind blowing through my hair. It’s a good, sweet wind, as my friend Diana said, it’s delicious. By sitting there, doing nothing, contemplating the trees, the house, I am amused, I never get bored; I’m surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers, birds picking flowers and cats playing around and the quietness of the village makes your mind wander.
I like when I first open my eyes, in the morning, look through the window, and see a beautiful, clear blue sky. I smile and say, today is a beautiful day. I hurry to get up out of the bed to go sit outside, eat some figs. In the evening, when the sun is down, I go pick figs, white figs from the garden. It is a relax-vacation, im enjoying my stay, the nature, the homemade lebanese food.

These summary days are the best now to enjoy nature in the village. Early wake-ups gives you a fresh mornings and you see the nature with a different sparkle and shine. A mounted feeling of energy and beaming glimpses. The reflection of the sun’s rays on the fruits urge me to just reach out, sntach it from the tree and devour it….I can gladly say mission accomplished.
No need to explain to you how beautiful the nature is in Spring, and specially my beloved village, Deirmimas, which was blossoming, radiant with green views, fragrant with blooming trees… I will let the pictures tell you of the greatness of the Nature.

There has been a few days off, last weekend, we took the opportunity to spend it in the village; we were all there. we had fun. It was cold, it rained alot, and oh how i love the smell of nature, the moist earth, the wet trees, after the rain. I extremely enjoy walking in the nature, exploring the new scents that have risen. All fresh, all clear, all beautiful.
When I’m at the village i enjoy baking and it has been a while since I last baked a sweet treat. A nice fall recipe, rich with spices, like cinnamon, nutmeg. So I made this delicious apple pie. The crust cracked abit but the taste was amazing. The pie didn’t last 2 days.
Like every year, celebrations take place in Deirmimas on the occasion of Saint Mama’s holiday and the Cross’s holiday. Masses are held at the ” Deir” the Convent situated on a hill and facing the mountain and the litani river. Villagers meet, talk and gather over a nice array of food that many housewives have prepared. I have done few batches of maacroun.
There was also an exhibition of food preserves and artisanat, also prepared by the villagers. there were different kind of preserves: jams of different fruits, fruit preserves such as eggplant, quince, squash…. honey (I bought one, very delicious)… orange blossom water, rose water, pomegranate mollasses.
What a pleasure and honour I felt when I read about the 4th rank our Lebanese olive oil took at a contest organised by the German “Biofach 2012” exhibition at Nuremberg, Germany. Specially that this Lebanese olive oil comes from my beloved village, Deirmimas.
And specially when people approach me about it. What a joy!
Lebanese oil “Mariams Gold” which won, was among the products of 80 of the largest companies in the world, and returns to the lady Anne Fawaz, our neighbour, from my beloved village Deirmimas, in southern Lebanon, who practices organic farming and bio-work to improve the quality of the Lebanese olive oil.
Anne has done a tremendous work by expanding our unique olive oil. We are proud of her and her oil press which is used by most of the villagers and my family.
I’m happy about what she did, because I was eager to make people know about our extraordinary, uncomparable, olive oil. The best taste ever, our crop is the best I have ever tasted.

On Saturday, my husband, I, and my parents went to the village for a one-day trip. It’s been a couple of month since our last visit. I miss the village, I miss my home. We took advantage of that day since it was sunny, with a blue sky and few clouds. We picked what’s left of the orange tree and my mom selected a wide variety of wild green leafy vegetables. I enjoyed the nature and took few shots, which I like to share with you.
Last weekend, we visited my aunt, she has a nice house situated on a hill, facing mountains; as well a dozen of cats, of different colors and different ages… very cute but not domestic. So my aunt gave me a bucket full of fresh figs. The fig season reached its end at my village.
Tasting the poached figs that my aunt has prepared, made me want to try her recipe. The figs were juicy, sweet, aromatic, extremely delicious.
Choosing firm figs will conserve their firmness after poaching. I used a couple of scented geranium and few cloves. They gave the figs an amazing, delicious fragrance. These figs can be preserved for the winter time, and are a good dessert to be served after lunch, for your guests.
